Lloyd Raymond Viles
He was born on September 2, 1922, in Hutchinson, Kansas. In Sterling, Kansas, he met and married his high school sweetheart, Marjory Smith, and today after 62 years of marriage, she survives him. As does his sister, Betty Zelfer, his brother, Chester Viles, his two daughters, Jana Viles of Kauai HI, Linda Viles of Austin, TX, and his four grandchildren, Ilysea Viles Sunderman, Grace Simpson, Mason Simmons, and Matthew Knoch.
In high school, Lloyd excelled in sports; in WWII, he served as a Corporal in the Marines, stationed in the South Pacific. Following the war, he earned his Masters Degree in Industrial Arts, later to become Superintendent of Schools for Kingsdown, Kansas. In 1955, he joined McGrawHill Book Co., where he earned his way to Manager of College Textbook Sales until he retired in 1977. That year, Lloyd and Margie moved to Stephenville, bought land and began to live out his dream of ranching Red Brangus on their Viles Valley Ranch.
