Okay I see they are the knobs on top of the SR, and the lens cover was down.

Nice finds Lee!!

Yes, Ed.  That is a Realist under a picture of its case.  They're not lenses - - they are the silver dials that are on top of the camera.  One each end.

EDIT:  Just saw your reply...

Thx Lee!

Back to Prayer Man,
Is he holding a Stereo Realist, and adjusting/winding the knobs? :)

Stan the camera could be that which we see in PM hands!

Going back to this image Lee posted the other day:

I have had a reply from The Sixth Floor Museum regarding the heights of the steps.

The top three steps are 7 1/4" high

The fourth down  is 7 1/8" high,

The fifth down is 7 1/4" high

The sixth down is 7 1/8"high

and the bottom step  is 6 3/4"high

So it looks like the top step is 49 1/2" above street level.

Gary Mack is away so The info  was sent by one of his colleagues.

Those that ask nicely, recieve.

Awesome Ray!
Thx for getting those, I was looking at old Ed forum threads as I thought it was covered in the Oswald in Doorway thread but did not see the rise and run I was looking for.
But the back stairs are about 7" also.
:)

Right after watching the Ansco YouTube video Ed poster earlier today, and considering the Ansco flash attachment found in Ruth's garage, I sent an email to the guy who posted the video asking:

"Do you know if an Ansco flash attachment would work with a Minoltaflex TLR camera? Or is it specific to just the Ansco camera itself (i.e., not interchangeable)?"

I got this answer:

"There are 3 possibilities with the Ansco: early ones have no flash sync at all. My own reflex is one of these, but with a factory installed Heiland solenoid ... neither of these is much help for using flash.

"The later Reflexes have an "ASA post" connector at the bottom corner of the lens panel. This was the standard connector in the USA and Japan from the end of the war until around 1951 or so, but it was displaced by the modern PC connector that began in Europe about the same time. If the Minoltaflex has the asa post connector, then the Ansco flash will work... it may, as this design was common in Japan during the US occupation. If the Minoltaflex does not have this type of connector (it's a short of bayonet connector, about 5mm in diameter with 2 short arms on the sides, projecting about 10mm out from the camera body), then you will probably not be able to use the Ansco flash: I've seen adapters to use a PC flash on an asa camera, but not the other way around."

FYI.

This is where I got stopped Stan... I don't know if the camera Ruth claimed was theirs even had the port to plug in the flash.
In the Minoltaflex Japan ad it seems one on the left does not have a port and the one on the right does and can use a Ansco type flash.
We could ask Ruth!!!

Ruth Paine rides to the rescue...

...YET AGAIN.

http://www.maryferrell.org/mffweb/archive/viewer/showDoc.do?mode=searchResult&absPageId=1007201

Buggered if I can find it, but I posted somewhere about Irving Det McCabe's conflicting statements about what he found and where on Nov 23.

In one statatent, he did say that he found a camera and camera equipment in a  box in the living room and that he left it because it "obviously" belonged to Ruth Paine. Although he could recall quite clearly what Oswald's alleged camera looked like, he could remember nothing about this one and never bothered mentioning what the equipment was.

My point is, if this box contained the minoltaflex, then common sense suggests that the ansco flash would also be in that box... if Ruth was not telling porkies.

But it can't have been in the box because McCabe left everything in it.

So... if all the above makes any sense at all... the flash was not Ruth's as she claimed.

Excellent, Ray!   Thanks.

This gives me an increased level of confidence for the rest of my entrance measurements.

You did not mention the colleague's name, but I would like to extend my thanks to him/her also.

You must have asked very nicely.  Well done!

One other thing ...

"So it looks like the top step is 49 1/2" above street level."

Actually it is the measurement from the porch level to the sidewalk.  There is also a curb before you get down to the street.  And, since the street and sidewalk are both sloping towards the West, the heights of each will vary depending on the exact spot you do your measurement from.

Maybe but Tommy G. needs all the help he can get...bless his heart.
He does not think the steps are 4' 2" or 50 inches

No wonder there is a midget and pony show going over there.

After Lee's earlier post where he pointed out the "white blob" near PM's left elbow close to the radiator, and our subsequent discussions about what he may be holding, I thought I take a stab at building a gif focusing on PM and his hand movements. Total of 36 frames, animation speed 500 milliseconds, cropped images zoomed 300%, sharped, brightened and slight increase in contrast. If anyone thinks this suggests something interesting, perhaps a more professional (careful) attempt can be made. Again, the focus is not on identifying PM, but observing his movements.

This file is ostensibly too big to see directly here on this page, but clicking this link should open a new window to see it. The gif continuously loops and the starting point is the image with the large black area on the right.

I wonder what the real time interval is for 36 Darnell frames?
